YPG Structure

The Young Pharmacists Group is a network of motivated young pharmacists inside FIP, each having an equal role within the group. Each year at the FIP World Pharmacy Congress, a business meeting known as the ‘YPG Assembly’ is held where the strategy and budget for the year ahead is approved. Any congress delegates can attend the meeting, but only FIP members who have graduated less then 5 years ago from their first degree in pharmacy or are members younger than 35 years of age are eligible to move motions, vote or stand for elections during the Business meeting.

Each year, the assembly elects a Steering Committee to manage the network and facilitate communication. The Steering Committee consists of the Chairperson, Public Relations Officer and Project Coordinator.

The Steering Committee:

  • Maintains internal communication between and provides support to the young members of FIP
  • Co-ordinates the planning of the activities for young members during the annual FIP Congress
  • Appoints coordinators as deemed appropriate
  • Manages the financial responsibilities as defined in the current documents
  • Attends FIP Congress and other events where possible

From left: Miranda Law, Miranda Sertić, Brendan Murray

Miranda Sertić - Chairperson YPG 2016-2017

Hello everyone! I am Miranda Sertić, from Croatia. I have been a pharmacist for 10 years. I obtained my PhD in 2013 in Pharmaceutical analysis, and I currently work as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Zagreb.

I am a board member of the Croatian Pharmaceutical Society. I am also a member of the Croatian Chamber of Pharmacist, where I serve on several Committees and working groups.
Since 2008 I have served as ExCo member of the Young Pharmacists Group in Croatia, and in 2014 I was elected President of Croatian Young Pharmacist Group. In the past two years I have organized and/or conducted numerous public health campaigns, community practice research initiatives, gave and organized a series of continues education lectures for pharmacist.

It is my job as the Chairperson of our National Young Pharmacists Group to make every young pharmacist feel welcomed and included in our Group and given the opportunity to bring new, share and conduct ideas and projects that will enhance pharmacy profession. I have loved every minute of it, because there is nothing more rewording then sharing new ideas, making new friendships, and going out there and making a difference, no matter how big or small.

It is my wish as the Chairperson of FIP YPG 2016-2017 to make everyone fell invited to work within FIP’s YPG on enhancing both pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical science, to work on improving global health, having the patient’s health in the focus the whole time.

Brendan Murray - Public Relations Officer YPG 2016-2017

Hello everyone, my name is Brendan Murray and I am a community pharmacist in the Republic of Ireland. I have previously worked as a hospital pharmacist in the United Kingdom.

I first got involved in pharmacy organisation back in 2010 when I attended a student pharmacy conference in the UK, the British Pharmaceutical Students` Association (BPSA). In 2013 I was elected onto the BPSA executive as the European Officer and represented Pharmacy students in the UK at a European level, at the European Pharmaceutical Students` Association (EPSA) events. In 2013 I attended my first FIP congress in Dublin and since then I have attended as many FIP world Congresses around the world.

I truly believe that FIP is the best platform on which pharmacist from around the world can network with each other on. Remember if you are doing anything with your national young pharmacist board, let me know and we will share your stories with pharmacists around the world. I look forward to the year ahead on the YPG steering committee and hope to see lots of young pharmacist at the next FIP world congress in Seoul in South Korean in 2017.

Miranda Law - Project Coordinator YPG 2016-207

Hi everyone! I am born and raised in the United States, but my roots are back in Taiwan, where both my parents were born. I completed my bachelor’s of Science in Neurobiology and Physiology, and then my Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2014.

I’m quite passionate about a few things. One of those being clinical pharmacy, and the second being public health. I’ll be going back to school soon to get my Master’s of Public Health so I can have the knowledge and experience to be able to find a common ground between the two fields

As a student I dedicated a lot of work to the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) and was previously the IPSF Chairperson of Student Exchange. I have learned so much from being part of an international team and am really looking forward to what we can do for YPG this year! Please contact me if there is something you want to see happen (I would love it even more if you wanted to get involved and help make it happen!)

Interested in Getting Involved?

Being actively involved in the leadership of YPG is an unforgettable and very rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to work with new friends from around the world and get a unique insight into the world of FIP and international pharmacy.
It is hard work and committee members need to be in a position to dedicate at least a few hours each week to YPG. The majority of the group's work is done online, so you will need to have access to the internet. The committee meets twice during the year, once in March (normally at the FIP Secretariat in The Hague, The Netherlands) and once in September before the FIP Congress.

Any young pharmacist who is a member of FIP YPG can run for election. Candidates do not need to be present during the election which takes place during the Annual Assembly of FIP YPG Members at the FIP  Congress. Details on how to apply for the 2016/2017 YPG Steering Committee and job descriptions of the positions will be posted here by July 1st 2016. For further questions, please contact the steering committee: ypg@fip.org
