Clinical Biology Section

In 1972 the clinical biology section of the FIP was officially created. The main objective of CBS is 'To study and maintain the development and the protection of the scientific and professional interests of all Pharmacists engaged in Clinical Biology'. The board of the Section consists of Honorary Presidents, President, Vice Presidents and a Treasurer. The Secretariat currently consists of the President and Vice President. The latter being responsible for the organization of section's sessions during the FIP Congress. The projects of the Section board aim at increasing international representation and keeping the section's statutes up to date.
During the FIP Congress the Section holds an annual business meeting. Prior to the congress and during the event, the Section's Board holds several other meetings. During the FIP conference the Section collaborates in various activities, depending on the level of practice of Clinical Biology in the hosting country. However, we have encountered some problems in those countries where there are few clinical biology Pharmacists. In this case, the support and the assistance from the various FIP bodies are indispensable.

Objectives
The section's main objectives and ideas for future projects are:
- to keep our colleagues, Biology Pharmacists all over the world informed about the Section and to make it known to those who do not know it yet and to welcome them as future members;
- to develop a network of correspondents between those countries where Pharmacists practice Clinical Biology, so as to enlarge the number of Section Members and thus FIP Members;
- to create a Section Bulletin with the aim of keeping member pharmacists informed of the Section's activities and to also publish information concerning the training of Biology Pharmacists and the organization for Clinical Biology in various countries;
- to maintain the contacts that exist with other sections of FIP and together with the Academic Section and Hospital Section plan joint sessions at future congresses. Suggested examples would be: Training of Biology pharmacists world-wide; evaluation, comparison and maybe joint training as well as pharmacological studies of certain medicines, biological modification caused by certain treatments, control of certain therapeutics;
- to have the future intention to study and compare, in those countries where they exist, the various programs for Quality Control and the problems concerning the possible establishment of laboratories;
- to publish articles in the International Pharmacy Journal and thus inform all pharmacists of the activities of the Section;
- to establish communication links with various international organizations, like the ECCCC (European Community Confederation of Clinical Chemistry) and the IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry).
The Section will be creating different working groups, which will study all these proposals and welcomes any voluntary initiatives which would help reach these goals.
