Theophylline, a methylxanthine compound, is known as an efficient bronchodilatatory drug, having also antiinflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. In order to improve its pharmacological profile and to reduce also the serious side effects that appear at high concentrations, new theophylline derivatives have been synthesized.
