Backgrounds
Organic anion transporter 1 (OAT1, SLC22A6) and 3 (OAT3, SLC22A8) are expressed in the basolateral membrane of renal proximal tubular cells. OAT1 and OAT3 mediate tubular secretion of clinically important drugs, including antibiotics, antivirals, and diuretics. Therefore, OAT1 and OAT3 play key roles in renal elimination of drugs.
