Vaccination is one of the most effective public health interventions to mitigate the burden of disease and saves millions of lives per year. The role of pharmacists as widely documented during the pandemic further reemphasizes the importance of pharmacy-based vaccination in health promotion. The strategic use of vaccination surveillance data can inform and shape public health policies and vaccination approaches. This event will explore the use of surveillance data using international examples of pharmacy-based vaccination services and advocate for extended pharmaceutical services in vaccination. The event will additionally present other global vaccination data-driven projects and their use in policy making.

Pregnant women and mothers often encounter bias by being viewed as inconveniences or liabilities by their employers. Their ability to perform quality work is also presumed to be compromised due to their pregnancy or motherhood responsibilities. Insufficient support and workplace policies exacerbate these challenges, including the absence of flexible work arrangements and adequate accommodations like maternity leave.
These inequities impact women across various sectors; however, they are particularly evident within the health and pharmacy workforce since women represent over 70% of the workforce in the health and social sectors1. To address these issues and inequities, it is crucial to challenge and dismantle the gender biases and stereotypes that perpetuate discrimination against pregnant women and mothers. EquityRx and FIPWiSE (Women in Science and Education) are hosting a digital event to highlight and address some of these issues, particularly those related to maternity leave policies.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) is the umbrella body of Pharmacists in Kenya.

Over the years, PSK has been hosting annual scientific conferences for its members. In 2024, this conference will be a unique one as it will be held in collaboration with the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and will also mark the 60th anniversary of PSK. The annual conference is a platform that aligns with PSK’s mission to empower its members and uphold professionalism and ethics. The pharmaceutical sector is dynamic, influenced by technological advancements, policy changes, and the imperative of patient safety. Therefore, the 2024 conference is designed to assemble pharmacists and pharmacoepidemiologists from all over the world to delve into the theme ‘Pharmacists Transforming Policy, Practice, and Patient Safety’.

The FIP Pharmacy Practice Research Special Interest Group (PPR SIG) is hosting another international event — “Pharmacy practice research summer meeting for PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and supervisors” — on 4 and 5 July 2024. This time the event will be online and the attendance will be free of charge.

The main scope of the PPR SIG is to increase pharmacy practice contributions to global health by providing greater access to the latest high-quality international pharmacy practice research. During this meeting both starting-out and experienced researchers will be given an opportunity to present their PPR research to an international audience. 

PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, academics, and practitioners involved in research are welcome to join this virtual meeting to present their research and disseminate their findings in a specialised forum .
