FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

Further background on the FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools:

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

Located in the Cultural District of Fort Worth, Texas, the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s System College of Pharmacy (SCP) was established in 2011 and is currently led by Dean Charles Taylor, PharmD.  The SCP Team has built a solid foundation to ensure we are providing an outstanding education to our diverse student population while remaining fiscally responsible and focused on our continued success moving forward.
Following are some key successes over the last few years:
-390 student pharmacists currently enrolled; 65% from diverse backgrounds
-Graduating licensure pass rate of 88% (national average 88%)
-Residency placement rate of graduates at 69% (national average 65%)
-Ranked 44th of 140 colleges of pharmacy in total research funding based on 2016 data
The global vision of the System College of Pharmacy is described in our motto: “We make healthcare better”.
Our motto reflects the increasing contribution to healthcare that can be provided by Doctors of Pharmacy trained in the highly interprofessional and primary care environment present at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) where our focus is on the patient. Making healthcare better crucially depends upon improved teamwork of a variety of healthcare professionals and improved access for patients.  Doctors of Pharmacy involved in disease and medication management make healthcare better by increasing safety, improving outcomes, and reducing costs.
Our motto also extends to the contributions that our faculty, postdoctoral associates, graduate students, and research staff make to the development of new and more effective therapies for the promotion of health and treatment of disease.
