Backgrounds
Human organic anion transporter 1 and 3 (OAT1/SLC22A6; OAT3/SLC22A8) are highly expressed at the basolateral membrane in the renal proximal tubular cells, and mediate tubular uptake of diverse anionic drugs from blood. Therefore, they govern renal elimination of the drugs.
