FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) has its main campus located in Florianópolis, capital of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Founded on 18 December 1960 with the goal of promoting teaching, research and outreach, UFSC delivers free and public education (government funding only) and is placed among the best universities in Brazil and in Latin America. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2020, UFSC is among the seven best Brazilian universities. In the THE 2019 Latin America Ranking, it has reached position 12 in Latin America and a top ten position among Brazilian universities, whereas in the THE Golden Age University Rankings 2019 it was ranked the second best in Brazil.
UFSC community consists of around 50,000 people, including about 6,000 faculty and staff members. The university has nearly 30,000 undergraduate students enrolled in more than 100 on-campus programs and 10 distance learning programs. At the graduate level, UFSC offers around 8,000 places in more than 60 academic master’s programs, 15 professional master’s programs and 50 doctoral programs, in addition to a number of specialization programs offered on campus or via distance learning.
UFSC’s achievements are seen as reference in Brazil and abroad and its internationalization process includes cooperation agreements with educational institutions all over the world. Currently, there are more than 300 partnerships with countries in all parts of the globe.
The Course of Pharmacy is integrated in the Health Sciences School. The undergraduation course was created in 1960. The curriculum comprises chemistry, biological and sociological foundation education, and professional contents in pharmaceutical sciences, practices and public health. Experiencial internships are mandatory in the final year and students can choose two or more experiencial settings: biological analyses clinics, public health facilities, community pharmacies, hospitals, regulatory bodies and industries. Students are engaged in research projects, integrated to the Postgraduation program.
Postgraduation in Pharmacy was launched in 1999. It offers opportunities in research areas such as pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice, biological analyses and social and administrative pharmacy.
